Sorry I haven't updated my site for a while, but I've been very busy. I received the first edits for Perfidy a couple of weeks ago. Since this is my first book, the editor had a lot of changes to suggest and corrections to make. There were a few chapters I decided to rewrite to improve the flow and bring more urgency to certain scenes. By the time I returned the manuscript a little over a week later I felt pretty good about the changes.
The following week, I received the final edits. There were only a few suggestions and a few grammatical changes that still needed to be made. It only took me two days to complete my final review and accept/reject the changes. Then I had to let it go!
I thought about keeping Perfidy just one more day, just to make sure I was finished. However, I thought better of it. I knew if I kept it, I might think of some other way to change a word here and there and it probably wouldn't really make a difference to my readers.
To me, the final editing process was like letting your grown up child leave the nest. I gave birth to it as an idea. Then I put it on paper, nurturing it until it was the best it could be. Now it's all grown up and I have to let it go out into the world and see how it flies.
I suppose most artists don't feel their work is ever truly complete. It's hard to believe that I won't get any more chances to make it better. Now Perfidy must stand on its own. A little sad, but also a relief. I can't wait to share it will all of you this coming November.
Until Next Time!
