Well, I finally have an approved design for my book cover. I can hardly wait to share it with all of you, but it still has to go through some finishing touches.
There's a lot more to it than throwing a few photos or drawings together. The publisher may ask that some things be moved in order to provide adequate room for wording. The title and my name must be placed on the front in just the right font size and style. It must attract the reader without taking away from the artwork.
Then there's the back cover. Placement of the "teaser" must be where it can be read easily. We want the potential reader to get a sense of what the book is about, not to be irritated by trying to read around something distracting. My picture, acknowledgements for the cover, etc. will need to be there as well as the name of the publisher. Lots of work yet to be done.
So, my fellow authors, give your artists and publishers thanks for all the hard work they put into creating the perfect cover for your literary art. If your cover isn't appealing, the reader just may pass it up.
In conclusion, I would like to thank my graphic artist, Julie Kukreja, President & Creative Director of Pen & Mouse Design House, Inc. in Algonquin, Illinois, for creating a beautiful cover which definitely reflects the mood of the book. Also, thank you to my Publisher, L. Sue Durkin-Eggerton, True Grit Publishing, for working with Julie and approving this wonderful design. I can't wait until Sue has completed the wording to see the finished product and share it with all of you.
Until next time.
