Yesterday, I attended the SinCC Holiday Luncheon with approximately 36 of my Sisters and 3 Brothers. We met at the Greek Islands Restaurant in Chicago and were treated to some wonderful Greek dishes such as flaming Saganaki cheese, gyros, spanakotiropina (Spinach and cheese pie--my personal favorite), and Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves). There were potatoes, rice, salad, bread, and of course dessert. Believe me no one went home hungry!
Since the Sisters in Crime organization is celebrating its 25th Anniversary, we were priviledged to have three very special Chicagoland Sisters and past presidents of the national organization with us--Libby Fisher Helman, Barbara D'Amato, and Sisters in Crime founder Sara Paretsky. We learned how our sisterhood began with a need to bring equal opportunities to authors of the female gender. Sara gave us a run down of the time and effort that it took to give birth to Sisters in Crime. There was also discussion on what it was like to be president of the national organization and how each of them is dealing with the many changes that are occuring in the publishing industry. These women and many more are to be thanked for their contributions to helping promote women in the mystery writing genre.
Also, I am excited to say that we had our elections for officers to serve in 2012 and I was elected Cooresponding Secretary of the Sisters in Crime Chicagoland Chapter. I feel very fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful organization.
Until next time.
